The official kickoff for Hispanic Heritage Month at Fresno State is La Bienvenida, a university tradition, welcoming new and returning Latina/o/x students, faculty and staff to campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the University Student Union balcony and The Pit.
The event, presented by the Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association, will feature performances by Mixtecos Unidos, Mariachi Orgullo de Fresno State, Danzantes de Aztlán and Banda La Afirmativa. There will be a resource fair and food while supplies last.
Other campuswide events
Sept. 16: Meet Your Pueblo, presented by Latino/a Programs and Services from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Resnick Student Union, Room 214. This is a social hour for students to enjoy aguas frescas while learning how to create papel picado to be displayed in the Cross Cultural and Gender Center during Hispanic Heritage Month. Free for students.
Sept. 18: Lunch & Learn Series — Raíces y Futuro: Latine Student Activism then, now, and beyond, presented by Latino/a Programs and Services in collaboration with the Chicano and Latin American Studies Department at noon in the Resnick Student Union, Room 214. This is an educational workshop that discusses the past, present and future of Latine/Chicanx student activism. Free for the campus community.
