Dr. Marat Markin's (Mathematics) paper, "On the generation of Beurling type Carleman ultradifferentiable C_0-semigrops by scalar type spectral operators," has recently appeared in the Methods of Functional Analysis and Topology Journal published by the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. A characterization of the generators of an important class of smooth operator semigroups, encompassing the Gevrey kind, is found. The intrinsically qualitative nature of the description purely in terms of the location of the operator's spectrum in the complex plane makes the result to be of the type of the classical Lyapunov Stability Theorem. In the acknowledgment section, Dr. Markin expresses appreciation to his Fresno State colleagues for being part of a vibrant and stimulating scholarly community.
Dr. Irán Barrera (Social Work) was selected for a new leadership program, Interdisciplinary Research Leaders, to identify health risks of those living in disadvantaged communities in Fresno. Barrera and his team are among 15 three-person teams selected nationally.
