Drawing on his 2024 book, "Becoming Gandhi," New York Times contributor Perry Garfinkel revisits Gandhi as a practical thinker for an age of polarization and violence. He experiments with Gandhi’s core ideas, including truth, nonviolence and simplicity, as the basis of personal and social change, and shows how they translate into contemporary civic life, conflict and community, and ecological repair. Blending his decades of engagement with spirituality East and West, Garfinkel offers concrete ways to think and act differently and take charge when faced with the sentiments and forces of fear, anger, dehumanization and environmental degradation.
