Join us in celebrating Earth Day on Wednesday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in person, in front of the Kennel Bookstore. We will have several different local climate and sustainability-related community organizations sharing information.
There will be a free-cycling table, where you can donate items you no longer need and pick up items donated by others. You can also purchase sustainability-sourced vegan Mexican food from La Jacka Mobile’s food truck. And depending on his schedule, Victor E. Bulldog III might make an appearance at noon for Earth Day pets and photos.
This Earth month, we hope you will join us. Everyday habits are tough to change, but even a few small adjustments can have an enormous climate impact. For those passionate about the environment, here are some things you can do that can help make a difference:.
- Transportation: Clear the Valley air. Try biking or walking to campus, utilizing public transportation or carpooling. Check out Valley Clean Air Now if you want to switch to an electric vehicle but aren’t sure if you can afford one.
- Reduce water usage: Plug the sink when washing dishes, turn the shower off when not actively using water, switch to low pressure shower heads, upgrade to a water-saving toilet, or remove grass from yards and switch to more water-wise options.
- Ditch plastic: Refuse plastic every chance you get. Bring a reusable water bottle with you to campus to stay hydrated, use reusable cups when getting coffee, use reusable straws and/or cutlery when eating out.
- Eat a meatless meal: Skipping meat can save quite a bit of water and reduce air pollution. Try switching to meatless meat if you are having a hard time removing meat from your diet.
- Donate unused items: Avoid sending things to the landfill. Donate clothing or other items you no longer use to thrift stores or sell them on apps like Offer Up.
