The campus community is invited to a free presentation by history faculty Dr. Stephen Bohigian.
Amidst nationwide Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and frequent shootings by police, this teach-in will explore police power in American society. The talk will also cover how laws, court decisions, the media, and capitalism have enabled and expanded police power since the end of World War II.
Bohigian is an expert in the history of policing and crime in 20th-century urban America. On campus, he teaches courses on these topics, research and writing, and other classes in American history. He also teaches at Valley State Prison and Central California Women’s Facility through Fresno State’s Division of Continuing and Global Education.
Bohigian’s research and reviews have appeared in the Journal of Urban History, Punishment & Society, Criminal Justice Law and Criminal Justice Books, among others. His current research examines newspaper crime wave narratives and police power following World War I in Los Angeles County.
