Fifteen groups will join Fresno State’s crowdfunding cohort this month to raise funds to support their passion projects — everything from a demonstration garden on campus, to experiential learning programs and equipment and student scholarships.

Last fall, the University started crowdfunding to empower the Fresno State community to raise the funds needed for projects, events and efforts that make a difference locally and globally on behalf of the campus. Eight campus projects and programs participated.
-
Faculty Carmen Caprau raised over $2,000 for the Women in Math: Sonia Kovalevsky Math Day. The event was held on Feb. 29, 2020 on campus, and it brought together about 70 middle school and high school female students, 11 teachers, and 40 Fresno State faculty and students to connect, learn and embrace the fun side of math.
- Faculty Dennis Borges raised over $15,000 for his Portuguese Oral History Project. The project collects the stories of the Portuguese-American experience in California and teaches Fresno State students the art of collecting oral histories of prior generations, giving the students a link to the past as they prepare for the future.
"This project is very special to the Portuguese-American community. Developing resources to pass their stories and their ancestors’ language to younger generations is vital," Borges said.
Applications are not being accepted at this time. The next crowdfunding application deadline is Friday, Feb. 12, 2021. For questions, contact Amanda Hall at ahall@mail.fresnostate.edu.
