Dr. Bryan Tune, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, created the CCAS — Critical Care RN Registry Service — to assist rural community hospitals that are in great need of critical care registered nurses, such as Madera Community Hospital and Coalinga Regional Medical Center. Within a four-month period, the registry had 109 intensive care and emergency department, specialty trained registered nurses providing care to rural hospitals in the Valley.
Michele Falk, an administrative support assistant in the Department of Social Work Education, once again won big at the Big Fresno Fair! Of her 40 entries total, 35 received 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize honors with eight winning "best in show." View all her crafting and baking entries here.
Karen Markland, a lecturer in the Department of Recreation Administration, earned "Best in Show" honors at the Big Fresno Fair for her table setting entry, "Who Was Your First Responder?" It honors the heroes of the Creek Fire and pays tribute to the Fresno State community, who stepped up at the time to offer donations and assistance, which Markland said made "a chaotic time more stable."
Dr. Janine Spencer, associate professor in the School of Nursing, published "Integrating service-learning into the RN to BSN curriculum with the application of QSEN competencies" in the Journal of Professional Nursing.
Dr. Miguel Perez, professor in the Department of Public Health, published "Roll-Over Test as Predictive Value of Pre-eclampsia" in the Journal of Higher Education in Latin America. Reuben Addo (Social Work) published "Defunding School Resource Officers: a New Commitment to Student Safety" in the Journal of Policy Practice and Research.
Dr. Helda Pinzon-Perez, professor in the Department of Public Health, published "Indigenous communities from Oaxaca, Mexico. Health problems, opportunities and challenges in public health with special attention in mental health" in the Journal of the Faculty of Human Medicine
Joan K. Sharma, professor of art, received an honorable mention in the 2021 International Photography Awards for her photo "Controlled Burn - Yosemite." The image, taken on May 24, 2001, depicts a prescribed burn below Half Dome on the Yosemite Valley floor. The photo was recently part of the "Controlled Burn: The Wonder and the Worry," an exhibit featuring Sharma’s works at the Spectrum Art Gallery.
