Join the Student Health and Counseling Center in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month for October 2019.
Visit the awareness display near the fountain in the Reflection Pathway between Oct. 21 and 25. This pathway was a project by Leadership Fresno Class 35 to provide a place of peace and reflection. It is dedicated to the survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
National Wear Purple Day is on Oct. 24. Please wear purple to show your support for survivors of domestic/dating violence and bring awareness so intimate partner violence will end. To show your support, post a picture of yourself wearing purple using #PurpleThursday and tag @FSHealthPAWS.
Members of the campus community can also attend STEP Up training, which is a bystander intervention training. The STEP UP training is open to all Fresno State students, staff and faculty from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the University Student Union, Room 309. Trainings are also available by request for your office or department. Visit our Request a Presentation webpage or contact Mindy Kates at 559.278.6796 or survivoradvocate@csufresno.edu.
If you or someone you know is dealing with domestic/dating violence, contact the Marjaree Mason Center at 559.233.HELP or the National Domestic Violence Hotline 800.799.7233. Fresno State students, staff and faculty can also contact the Campus Confidential Survivor Advocate, Mindy Kates M.S.W., at 559.278.6896 or survivoradvocate@csufresno.edu.
National Domestic Violence Awareness Month is recognized each October through educational events, community gatherings and support groups. Raise awareness about domestic violence: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men have experienced severe physical injury, contact sexual violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner. Women between the ages of 18 and 24 are most commonly abused by an intimate partner. Learn more about this epidemic at www.ncadv.org.
