Librarian Shuyi Liu has been selected to participate in the 2024 American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders Program. As a part of this program, Shuyi will represent our library at the LibLearnX 2024 meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, and the 2024 ALA Annual Conference in San Diego. Shuyi is the liaison for the College of Health and Human Services and one of the Library’s newest tenure-track professionals, having started at Fresno State in August.

In one word, describe your present condition.
Relaxed. I'm ready for the Thanksgiving break. It's been a busy semester, but I've been enjoying my time.
In one sentence, what’s going on in your world?
I am enthusiastic about the ongoing and potential research and teaching collaborations with my colleagues and faculty from other departments.
With no restrictions on content or form, describe what excites you about your work as a librarian.
In the role of a librarian, there are abundant opportunities to engage in diverse projects with students and faculty. This provides a unique chance to learn new things across different disciplines and gain exposure to novel concepts, technologies and tools.
What is your favorite service or resource at Fresno State, and why?
I adore the university farm market, cherish the connections with students, colleagues, and the community, and appreciate the delightful atmosphere on campus. Everything is simply wonderful!
When you want to take a 15-minute break from your work in the library, what do you do?
I enjoy spending time and exploring the library. The building is still vast and new for me to discover.
What is your best library shortcut or life hack?
Think of the library as more than just a collection of books. It's a space filled with people, unique environments and a way of life worth exploring. Dive into the experience beyond the shelves!
What’s next for your endeavors in the Fresno State Library?
I am currently working with our librarians on a library assessment project, eagerly anticipating the final findings and exploring what new offerings we can provide to the campus. Our library is truly exceptional!

I'm truly excited to be part of the Fresno State community — a truly amazing place. I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here and eagerly look forward to more interactions with everyone.
