Paul Beare, Ph.D.
Dean, Kremen School of Education and Human Development
15 Years of Service
Dr. Beare has served as the Dean of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development for the past 15 years and is the longest serving Education Dean in the CSU system. During his leadership, he and his faculty and staff have implemented several significant projects: instituting cohorts for the credential, doctorate in educational leadership and graduate programs, created nationally recognized teacher residency programs and grants, created the Math Science Teacher Initiative and created the Welty Center for Education Policy and Leadership.
Steven D. Koobatian Ph.D., CRC, NCC, CDMS
Professor, Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation
22 Years of Service
Over the last 22 years, Dr. Steve Koobatian has served in the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation. Steve shares that his humble accomplishment at Fresno State during the last 22 years is the joy he has experienced in serving our University, Community, and most important– training emerging student professionals with hands-on skills in rehabilitation counseling to empower people with disabilities to achieve independence and gainful employment.
Kenneth R. Magdaleno, Ed.D.
Chair, Department of Educational Leadership

Dr. Kenneth Magdaleno served as Director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at Fresno State in addition to serving as Co-Director of the Collaborative Online Doctorate in Educational Leadership (CODEL) under development at CSU Channel Islands and CSU Fresno. Dr. Magdaleno earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from UCLA and is the founding Executive Director of the Center for Leadership, Equity, and Research (CLEAR).
Jane Moosoolian
Full Time Lecturer, Department of Curriculum and Instruction

Jane's years as part of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development faculty have been most gratifying. She feels her biggest accomplishment is developing and supporting teacher candidates in their fieldwork – to become the next generation of teachers in the Central Valley. She has spent years coordinating partnerships in several school districts. Most recently, she was the Faculty-In- Residence for the STaR Residency in Sanger Unified School District.
Lisa M. Nyberg, Ph.D.
Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction
20 Years of Service
Dr. Lisa Nyberg has been a part of the Fresno State team for twenty years. Her teaching has focused on preparing elementary school teachers in the areas of science instruction, technology, and classroom management. She has taught elementary school partnerships in Sanger, Fowler, Central, Clovis, and Fresno. She currently serves as a Faculty in Residence at Wishon Elementary for Fresno Unified.
Kien Pham, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction
28 Years of Service
Dr. Pham has been teaching at Fresno state since 1995. In 2011 he became a Google Faculty Fellow. Over his career he has also published many pieces of research, two highlighted publications include: “To Be or 2B: Language Consideration in Mathematics Instruction.” (1998) and “Form 1 to Z: Integrating Mathematics and Language Learning.” (1995).
H. Dan Smith, Ed.D., MFT
Professor, Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation
40 Years of Service
Dr. Dan Smith started in 1978 as a full-time lecturer and then was hired as an Assistant Professor in 1980. He was then promoted to full professor in 1986. During his time at Fresno State, he made numerous contributions locally and nationally. Dr. Smith has been recognized as an innovator (Claude C. Laval Award), a distinguished Clinical Member (CAMFT), and an excellent professor.
