Works Above and Beyond
Ashley Fagundes, University Advising Center
Ashley is extremely dedicated to her students and determined to do a great job. She recently encountered some significant hardships that likely should have made her arrival to campus impossible, and yet she managed to make it to an in-person presentation, nonetheless. She consistently goes above and beyond to honor her commitments to staff and students alike.
David Gaines and Robert Chase, Technology Services
David and Robert absolutely went above and beyond for me as a junior faculty member in the College of Arts and Humanities. When my computer began shutting down unexpectedly, they made it possible for me to continue to teach my classes and do my work until I could get into their office long enough to be switched over to a new one. They not only understand the technology I need to do my job; they understand how Fresno State connects and serves people, from tech whizzes to luddites and everything in between. They found the way to make this midterm transition doable for me and stuck with me till the job was done. Don't know how to thank you, Robert and David, but let me start with a high five.
Travis Hegerle, Technology services
Travis is always there to help when needed. I know that I can always count on him for any of my tech needs. He always has a positive attitude and greets everyone with a smile. We are so grateful to have him as part of our division.
Maribel Olea, Admissions and Recruitment
Maribel worked on making sure that high school students participating in the Academic Decathlon were entered into our database so that they could register prior to Census Date so that they can be captured into our AY 2022-2023 census. Over 40 students were processed and registered because of her effort.
Richard Partida, Admissions and Recruitment
In the month of January and February, Rich has traveled heavily and has visited more schools than other staff. He took the leadership to visit high schools and community colleges on the Central Coast and established many relationships setting up future events in those areas. At the same time, he coordinated the February Fresno State Day which saw an attendance of approximately 450 high school students from several schools. Rich has been on the go and understands the importance of getting in front of students so we can recruit them here. He's also ahead of other staff in terms of yield events for fall 2023 applicants. He was able to do all this while being assigned to two academic colleges and maintaining office appointments.
Svetlana Korol, Admissions and Recruitment
Two days prior to Census, Lana worked collaboratively with the Academic Decathlon coordinator and other staff to assure that students were not missing anything in order for them to register. This was critical so that the students could register prior to Census and be reported in our AY 2022-23 census data. Over 40 students were processed and registered because of her effort boosting our enrollment target. This would not have been possible without Lana going beyond within the very short time.
Nancy Van Leuven, Media, Communications, Journalism
Nancy, I appreciate you for allowing me to lean on you during my first semester teaching here. I appreciate your leadership as a role model for the faculty as well as students here.
Police Traffic Control
The Traffic Operations work rain or shine at the peak hours of traffic to get it flowing. They make it easy to come on and off campus, which I appreciate. Thank you for going over and beyond every day.
Provides Excellent Customer Service
Amy Luna, Police Department
We were fortunate to have Amy come and present Seconds to Survive to our area, and she did a wonderful job. She was able to share valuable and sensitive information in a clear and detailed manner, made everyone feel comfortable, and answered all questions. Having her come visit with us in-person was so much more worthwhile than simply watching a video. She's really an asset for our campus, and her excellent service to the campus community is so appreciated.
Esmeralda Ramirez and Admissions and Recruitment Team
Within just a few days, Esmeralda and her imaging team of three staff called 2,000 students for whom we were missing transcripts. From those, we were able to collect over 600 transcripts so far. This extra effort was essential as the number of our transfer applicants is lower compared to last fall. They managed to do this while still continuing to maintain the quality work they are performing.
Cheenou Xiong and Admissions and Recruitment Team
Cheenou and his team called over 600 prospective applicants to notify them that they missed the deadline to submit their official transcript. Because of their effort, we were able to collect over 600 transcripts which will allow these students to be admitted for fall 2023. This is critical as the number of transfer applicants is nearly 900 below what we had last year.
Saved My Bacon!
Delia Medrano, Library - Administrative Offices
Delia always has a smile on her face every time I see her. She also saved my bacon today by helping me very quickly. Delia is awesome.
Lian Vang, Admissions and Recruitment
Lian coordinated Journey to the Success Conference which took place on Jan. 13. The event was oversold, and we ended up with over 900 participants. With the rain and the limited capacity at the SSU, she was able to quickly pivot and make accommodations on the spot to still give the students a good experience. Her flexibility and ability to adjust based on the situation saved this event.
Mehran Zarrinehteram, Facilities Management
Mehran assisted with challenges while we had some staff shortages. He is always willing to assist, even if it's not explicitly his responsibility, as he has a broad range of skills and knows the campus facility as well as the campus community. He bridges between people who can help, and always embraces the Principles of Community. Thank you, Mehran, for all that you do.
