It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Rebecca Mae Russler, a cherished member of our community, who passed away on February 27. Rebecca, known affectionately as Becky, touched the lives of many as a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her presence illuminated our lives with warmth, compassion and unwavering faith.
A lifelong Lutheran, Becky's dedication to her faith was evident through her active involvement in church activities, particularly through her musical contributions, fellowship and commitment to various committees. Despite facing health challenges, including a double lung transplant in 2014, Becky's resilience and unwavering faith continued to inspire those around her.
Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her surviving family members, including her beloved husband Mike, her children Sandra and Steven, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. Rebecca's passion for nursing and her compassionate care touched countless lives throughout her career, leaving an indelible mark on the community she served. She obtained an associate degree in nursing from Fresno City College, and a bachelor's and master's in nursing, from Fresno State. Rebecca's long health career included roles at Valley Medical Center in acute care, school nursing and as a primary care family nurse practitioner. She retired in 2014 from the Student Health and Counseling Center at Fresno State.
Becky's joyful spirit and zest for life were evident in her diverse interests, from quilting and playing her cello to enjoying outdoor activities with her family, especially her cherished moments with her grandchildren.
As we gather to honor Rebecca's memory at the memorial service on Saturday, March 23, let us remember her with fondness and gratitude for the love and light she shared with us all. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Lung Transplant Gift Fund at UCSF Foundation are welcomed, serving as a lasting tribute to Rebecca's courageous journey and her enduring impact on our lives. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
