Dr. Anil Shrestha, professor in the Department of Plant Science, began a one-year term on Feb. 27 as the president of the California Weed Science Society, which encourages education and information exchange among faculty, students, researchers and industry members. In his past role as vice-president, he coordinated its annual conference and centered on real-world weed management topics. He is a past recipient of the society's "Award of Excellence" and the national outstanding teacher award of the Weed Science Society of America. On campus, he serves as the chairperson for the Department of Viticulture and Enology, and is teaching classes this year in weed science, vineyard ecology and organic production, and biometrics. He joined the campus faculty in 2008 and has taught an array of plant science department classes and conducted research related to pest management, agroecology, cropping, tillage and organic systems.

Marie Gilbert, director of the Central California Center for Excellence in Nursing, recently published "The Scope of Hospital-Based Simulation" in the Journal of Nursing Administration. She also presented three sessions for the 2021 International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare, in areas of faculty development and lessons learned for education during COVID and successes and surviving a pandemic.
