Monique Beeler will join University Communications as interim associate vice president starting Tuesday, June 22. She brings to the role 25 years of professional communications experience, from 12 years as an award-winning journalist to nearly 10 years of CSU service, including serving San Francisco State University as interim associate vice president for Strategic Marketing and Communication (SMC) from fall 2019 throughout 2020. Under her leadership, the SMC team earned the 2021 Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the highest honor for university magazines.
Among her past initiatives and projects, Beeler assisted in onboarding SF State’s then-new president and designing the president’s first-year communications plan. She served on the President’s “Cabinet Plus” and as primary public information officer to the campus Emergency Operations Center, managed crises communications from a bomb scare and subsequent campus-wide evacuation to early COVID-19 messaging and the transition to remote learning and working.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree in diplomacy and world affairs from Occidental College, where she was an editor for the school newspaper and played on the first varsity women’s soccer team. She remains an ardent fan of the sport — particularly of the U.S. Women's National Team — and looks forward to trading Olympics pre-game predictions and post-match analysis with like-minded Fresno State colleagues.
