How long you have worked at Fresno State: 16 short years. I have enjoyed working at Fresno State — the time has flown.
What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important? Working with a great administrative and support team from various campus departments prior to and during the initial months of opening the Student Recreation Center. Having the independence to use my knowledge and experience from my previous three institutions to plan for the successful operations of the facility. This included procurement of the exercise and building equipment, policy development and hiring full-time staff and training student staff in approximately six months is something I am very proud of.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why? I am passionate about health and fitness. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a crowded Rec Center full of students, faculty and staff all working out in different ways and all benefitting from a variety of equipment and programs we offer. The hope is that we are making a difference toward lifelong fitness.
What is a memorable moment you had at your job? A few years ago, someone broke a fire sprinkler with a ball on one of our basketball courts. It caused a flood in the gym and warped our wood floor in that corner. To make matters worse, it was right before commencement activities were to take place on our courts. We were able to get it cleaned up and have the ceremonies before having the court repaired.
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time? I like to do work around the yard and house. I'm not good at it, but I like it.
What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know? I played the tuba in high school and our brass ensemble won the state music award. This would be the equivalent of winning a state championship in a sport.
