Ryan Soares, lecturer in the Department of Recreation Administration, set a new personal record by skiing acrossing the Sierra High Route in 17 hours, 18 minutes. This beats his previous record of 19 hours, 50 minutes. To date, it is the fastest known time set in the mountain community for the 43-mile trek, which has an elevation gain of 13,370 feet. Soares, who has skied this route many times before, said it proved to be even tougher this year coming off the heels of California's heaviest winter in 40 years.
Dr. Peter Robertson, director of Alumni Connections, received the Harvey Milk Award: Champion of Change from the City of Fresno for his "commitment in support and action for the LGBTQ+ community." The award was presented by Fresno City Council Vice President Annalisa Perea at Fresno City Hall on June 9.
