Melissa Norris, a health educator in the Student Health and Counseling Center, is one of 35 members of this year’s Emerging Leaders Program cohort hosted by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
The program is designed to provide participants an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and apply what they learn to advancing a project or initiative at their campus. Norris is dedicating her time to advance Fresno State’s Parent Scholar Initiative.
Dr. Nupur Hajela, assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, was featured on the Beyond Reality podcast, hosted by Veena Somareddy, CEO of Neurorehab VR. They discussed Hajela's journey in physical therapy and her clinical insight on use of immersive virtual reality in an aging population with Parkinsons and Alzheimer's, telehealth research work and the use of technology in healthcare in general. Dr. Soua Xiong, assistant professor, Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation, published the study, "Fuel to complete my degree": Hmong college students' [in]validating advising experiences, in the NACADA Journal.
The Special Collections and Research Center Team, in preparation for the 2024 American Library Association Annual Conference, created a poster based on their yearlong exhibitions, Unseen Labor and Words Matter (2023-2024). The poster, titled "Unseen Labor and Words Matter! Making the Invisible Visible in Critical Cataloging," was presented by the two attending team members, Suzanne López and Julie Moore, on June 30.
The presentation highlighted the often-overlooked efforts involved in cataloging and the importance of language in this field. By focusing on these hidden aspects, the Special Collections and Research Center Team aimed to raise awareness and understanding of the critical work that goes into maintaining and organizing library collections.
