Since the BOLD Ideas Challenge launched in 2014, there have been over 200 BOLD ideas submitted related to improving services to students, teaching, learning, or streamlining inefficient processes. Ideas have ranged from focusing on the student experience, sustainability efforts, creating connections across campus, and improvements to academic policies. Over the past four years, 21 diverse teams of administrators, faculty, staff, and students from across the campus have worked to implement the BOLD ideas selected by President Castro and his Cabinet. A few project highlights from the past four years include:
-
Streamlining Course Substitution Process – submitted by Dr. Jesus Larralde-Muro, the CAIFE team led by Jenny Diaz discovered that the real issues related to this problem were closely tied to non-articulated courses. The team was able to deliver a sustainable solution to increase transfer of credit, streamline student degree progress, and facilitate more timely graduations.
-
Developing a New Employee Onboarding Process – combining ideas submitted by both Arturo Mendoza and Dr. Larissa Mercado-Lopez, Bryan Barrett led a CAIFE team to develop a web page designed for new employees, a Fresno State recruitment video, a new faculty and staff orientation in the fall and spring semesters, a manager’s checklist for new hires, and welcome baskets for all new faculty and staff on their first day.
-
Central Valley Emerging Leaders Summit – Anthony Bailey’s BOLD idea to provide leadership development training for local high school students became a reality two years ago, and has continued as an annual conference led by Breanne Scogin in Student Development and Amanda Banks in the Office of the President.
- Streamlining Accounts Payable Process – Ben Hylton led the CAIFE team to leverage automation to reduce physical paper flow and touch points in accounts payable. When launched this will significantly reduce the time from the invoice date to the date vouchers are issued.
