We are sad to notify the campus that Kristi Johnson, executive director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, has passed away. She joined the division of Continuing and Global Education with over two decades of experience in marketing, grant administration, and economic development, bringing with her an unwavering commitment to community service.
Prior to coming to campus, Johnson managed Fresno County’s Community Development Block Grant and affordable housing programs and spearheaded numerous projects promoting tourism, particularly through agritourism and the Fresno County Film Commission. Her contributions helped bring notable film productions, including Captain Marvel, to the Central Valley and established iconic landmarks such as the Fresno County Fruit Trail, leaving an indelible mark on our region.
Her journey into our university included earning a B.S. from California State University, Northridge, and a J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Before working in Fresno County, she built a diverse legal and public relations career across Los Angeles and Phoenix, AZ, later returning to the Central Valley to serve her beloved community.
Johnson was a passionate Bulldog fan, a dedicated member of the Timeout Club supporting Fresno State Men’s Basketball, a district area leader for the National MS Society, and an advocate for animal welfare with the Animal Rescue of Fresno.
Johnson’s leadership and compassionate spirit left a lasting impact on all of us. A Celebration of Life event was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 in the Kremen Education building in room 140. Continuing and Global Education honors her memory and extends our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and those touched by her remarkable life and work.
