Two Fresno State faculty members were announced as fellows in the fifth cohort of ELEVATE (Enriching Learning, Enhancing Visibility & Training Educators), a national professional development opportunity through the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI).
The program, to be held May 29 - 31 in Philadelphia, addresses the unique needs of early career faculty members at Minority Serving Institutions and will support the ongoing learning, training and networking of early career MSI faculty by providing workshops, opportunities to network with peers and a platform for collaboration.
Congratulations to Luz Herrera, assistant professor in the Department of Literacy, Early Bilingual, and Special Education at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Herrera’s teaching and research are in linguistically and culturally sustaining approaches to teaching emergent bilingual learners, engaging in translanguaging and critical pedagogy in the classroom, and bilingual education policy.
And congratulations to Shahab Tayeb, assistant professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Lyles College of Engineering. Tayeb’s research expertise and interests include Embedded Networking and Cybersecurity, particularly in the contexts of the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems.
