Drs. John and Jessica Hannigan (Kremen School of Education and Human Development) were congratulated by Councilmember Paul Caprioglio on the success of their book, Don’t Suspend Me!
This best seller is a tool-kit for alternative discipline methods. Written by practitioners for practitioners, this book helps educators comply with new legal requirements, create meaningful change in the behavior of at-risk students, and helps educators ultimately develop more productive and empathetic citizens.
Caprioglio said he appreciated the work the Hannigans have done to further people’s understanding of effective instruction methods.
Dean Paul Beare of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, with Dr. Colleen Torgerson, were both there to support the Hannigans.

Every year the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve) Group, recognizes employers for their continued support of the citizen soldiers that work under them with a “Breakfast with the Boss” ceremony. This year Sergeant Miriam Villaseñor (Financial Aid and Scholarships) had the opportunity to recognize her boss and supervisor with the “Patriotic Employer” award for continued support during her deployments to Kuwait and Afghanistan and the missions that she has been assigned to in California, Texas and South Korea.
"Each time they have been very understanding of my military obligations, no questions asked," Miriam said.
Unfortunately, her director was not able to attend the “Breakfast with the Boss” ceremony, but Miriam was able to present the award and pin her the following day, making this a living example of the two worlds Miriam works in as a citizen soldier.
"Needless to say, this recognition was long overdue and the least I could do as a token of my appreciation for the support I’ve been given in my civilian job while serving in my military career," Miriam said.
