At Fresno State, safety is everyone’s responsibility. In the next three issues of Campus News, we will be sharing some important safety tips as well as tips and resources to use in case of an emergency. These will also be shared through Twitter and Instagram.
The tips in this week’s issue are general safety tips:
- Don’t be a distracted walker. It’s important to be alert and aware of your surroundings. Try not to walk alone at night, and always tell someone where you are going.
- Did you know you can request a safety escort? If you feel unsafe walking alone, call the Fresno State Police Department at 559.278.8400 and a safety escort can accompany you to your on campus destination. More information can be found here.
- If you see something, say something right away! Report any unusual or suspicious activity to the Fresno State Police Department at 559.278.8400. If you witness a crime, be prepared to give a full description.
- Watch for the Wheels Off zones! As a reminder, you may not use skateboards, bikes, scooters etc. inside buildings, hallways, corridors and anywhere the ground says "Wheels Off."
- When parking on campus, do not leave your items in plain sight. Keep your car locked and windows closed. When leaving campus at night, be sure to locate your keys prior to going to your car. Keep a secure hold on your personal belongings.
- Do you know how to protect yourself from fraud? Don’t give away personal information and don’t share passwords or other sensitive information. Use strong passwords, antivirus software and always be aware.
- Drive safely on campus. Remember the speed limit is 25 mph on campus roads. Always use caution when approaching the roundabouts and crosswalks and remember vehicles inside the roundabout have the right of way. More tips on how to drive through a roundabout can be found here.
Information on these tips can be found on the Fresno State Police Department website here. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Amy Luna, manager for Emergency Operations and Business Continuity at 559.278.6875 or amyluna@csufresno.edu.
