Dr. Jessica Hannigan, assistant professor in Educational Leadership, co-authored a book with Fresno State alumnus Dr. John Hannigan called “SEL From A Distance: Tools and Processes for Anytime, Anywhere.”
The pandemic, subsequent switch to distance learning combined with recent instances of racial injustice has put a spotlight on the cracks in the practice of social and emotional learning (SEL). The book shares a collection of tools and processes for social and emotional learning that can be applied in any learning environment.
President Joseph I. Castro wrote in an editorial review that "The Hannigans have written an immensely valuable and timely resource for educators to help them better understand the social and emotional learning (SEL) needs of the students they serve. The global pandemic has exacerbated the need for quality SEL instruction in the U.S. and across the world. This book is a ′call to action, not through compliance but compassion.′ With its many practical and essential tools, I recommend it to all educators for supporting their students during this consequential time."
