Since its founding in 1911, Fresno State has been educating teachers. To honor them and others who support education, commemorative bricks have been available since 1998 on a Teachers and Friends of Education Honor Wall in front of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.
Over the years, bricks have been purchased to honor a deceased love one, a head custodian and even a teacher in Japan, who travelled to Fresno State to see her brick.
Two permanent monument walls contain almost 3,500 names etched in granite. But room is running out on the second wall and plans are in place to create an area for tiles on the northeast corner outside wall of the Kremen Building.
Funds raised from the Honor Wall help the Kremen School improve educational technology, which is essential in the preparation of teachers and education specialists throughout the Valley. According to Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Monke, “Funds [from the wall] have enabled us to donate computer labs and equipment for the Family Counseling Center.”
If you’d like to help build a legacy of excellence and honor someone who has made a difference in your life, you can order a brick for $100 at teacherhonorwall.com or call 278.0205. A frame-able certificate will be mailed to the honoree.
