Recently, the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the remembrance those who died and the hope that nuclear weapons are never used again was held in the Peace Garden. A gift of three Hiroshima Peace Trees were planted.
Members of of the Japanese American Community of Fresno and Japanese American Citizens League also decorated the Peace Garden with 2,601 origami cranes which added beauty and brilliance to the Peace Garden as never seen before. The Buddhist Temple of Fresno and United Japanese Christian Church contributed to the special preparation and planning of the cranes. The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom also contributed in decorating Jane Addams statue with cranes. The Commemoration in itself was an amazing event and a new chapter in the 30 years history of Peace Garden. We hope to continue this Commemoration every year in the Peace Garden.
