The Armenian Genocide was remembered on April 24, 2018, marking the 103rd anniversary of the killing of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Turkish Empire.
Fresno State is the first college campus in the United States to build a memorial monument dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.
Flowers were laid around the center of the monument at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation of flags at 6:45 p.m. Dr. Khatchig Mouradian was the keynote speaker for the evening ceremony. Mouradian is a lecturer in Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies at Columbia University in New York; he was the Henry S. Khanzadian Kazan Visiting Professor in the fall 2016 semester.

The Armenian Genocide Monument broke ground in 2014 and was unveiled in 2015 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide . The monument was built in remembrance of the tragic loss of life suffered during the Ottoman government's systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians.
