Join the Student Health and Counseling Center and the Cross Cultural and Gender Center Gender Programs and Services in recognition of Denim Day.
Wear denim on Wednesday, April 27 in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and stop by the Resource Fair happening in the Free Speech Area from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn about resources available to survivors at Fresno State and in our local community. Victor E. Bulldog will even be making an appearance.
Denim Day began in 1998 after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. This is the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history. Denim Day invites community members, staff, faculty, and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans (or some type of denim) on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
All are welcome to join and support this campaign.
