Marie Gilbert, director of the Central California Center for Excellence in Nursing, collaborated with six nurse researchers from across the country to conduct a study exploring the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes of adaptable nurse educators. The qualitative study used focus groups to explore the lived experiences of nurse educators during the COVID-19 pandemic and systematically investigated how they adapted from the traditional clinical education environment to a virtual format.
The findings of this study highlight the importance of collaboration and teamwork in academic institutes. Details and findings from the study were recently published in the March 2024 edition of Nurse Education in Practice.
Felipe Mercado, assistant professor in the Department of Social Work Education, is one of fifteen faculty members across the country to be accepted into the ELEVATE Fellows Program at Rutgers University, which provides early-career faculty members at Minority Serving Institutions with professional development opportunities. In addition, Mercado recently graduated from the prestigious Mind & Life's Global Majority Leadership and Mentorship Program as a mentee.
Launched in 2022, the program aims to nurture and expand the community of Global Majority investigators in contemplative research. He reflected on his experience in Psychology Today.
Chris Ludwig, Nick Wright and Scott Sailor, Athletic training faculty, presented their research at the California Athletic Trainers' Association Clinical Symposium in Orange, CA last month. They took several students with them, one of whom was a graduate student in the athletic training program who had a poster accepted for the conference.
Nupur Hajela, assistant professor of Physical Therapy, led the HealthTech Horizon Symposium, hosted by the The College of Health and Human Services and the Department of Physical Therapy. The evening was filled with inspiring discussions and insightful panels. Hajela presented "Charting a Visionary Course: Navigating the Future of Healthcare Delivery Through Technological Innovation" which served as a catalyst for collaboration, sparking innovative ideas to revolutionize healthcare delivery.
President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval talked about the importance of breaking the glass ceiling and encouraged students to be bold with their ideas. College of Health and Human Services interim dean Kara Zografos highlighted the transformation already happening at the college. Keynote speaker Dr. Todd Norwood, senior director of Clinical Services at Omada Health, discussed data, technology and innovation.
