The ethics of employee monitoring, a revolution in Central Valley freight shipping and the emotional rewards of family business will be the topics at the next Craig Talks, happening Tuesday, April 23 at 5 p.m. in the Alice Peters Auditorium (University Business Center). Members of the public, the business community and Fresno State faculty, students and staff are encouraged to attend.
The Craig Talks series presents information from faculty research in engaging talks for the business community and the wider public. Presentations will include:
—Featured faculty research presentation: “Employee Monitoring Undermines Ethical Conduct” with Dr. Zhanna Sahatjian of the Department of Management. Sahatjian will speak on the increasing use of employee monitoring software and its consequences for business ethics.
—“California Inland Ports Project to Transform Logistics Landscape” with Dr. Aly Tawfik of the Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering, director of the Fresno State Transportation Institute, and Simran Jhutti of the Fresno Council of Governments. Tawfik and Jhutti will speak on a new project to vastly improve freight shipping between seaports and the Central Valley and the effect the project will have on the Valley economy.
—“The Socioemotional Wealth and Challenges of Central Valley Family Business” with Dr. Fernando Parra of the Department of Accountancy, director of the Institute of Family Business. Parra will speak on the close family ties that power family-owned businesses, which generate emotional rewards and unique challenges.
The presentations are adapted from the speakers’ articles in the spring 2024 Craig’s Central California Business Review magazine, which will be distributed free at Craig Talks.
Craig Talks will begin with networking and refreshments in the University Business Center gallery at 5 p.m., followed by presentations in the auditorium from 5:30 to 6:30 and a post-presentation mixer from 6:30 to 7:30.
