The Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Laboratory at Fresno State, in collaboration with the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism and the AI Initiative, presents “AI, Power and Society: A Conversation with Yanis Varoufakis and Laurent Richard,” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 24.
The Zoom webinar is free, but registration is required.
Moderated by associate professor of computer science Thanos Panagopoulos, the discussions examine how AI infrastructure is increasingly organizing markets, labor, surveillance and society itself and how these developments affect economic organization, public accountability and the future of democracy. The event will begin with a conversation with Varoufakis, followed by a joint panel discussion and conclude with a second session with Richard focused on surveillance, investigative journalism and the exposure of hidden systems of power.
Varoufakis is an economist, political thinker and author of “Technofeudalism: What killed capitalism.” Richard is a journalist, documentary filmmaker, founder of “Forbidden Stories,” and a central figure behind the “Pegasus Project.”
