From welcoming students and their parents to campus, to providing employee training and help with accessibility, to the reopening of a campus building.
Dear Campus Community,
The positive energy on campus is palpable. I’ve interacted with our students during my walks and scooter rides around campus; they are thankful to be back and their eyes sparkle with hope.
Our resolve is to keep face-to-face classes going for the semester, so I remind you to use your masks at all indoor venues.
Please see below the highlights of our “back to Fresno State” events. Let’s all be thankful for this opportunity, and strive to come together safely, as the great Fresno State family that we are.
Academic Affairs
Faculty and staff have welcomed our new students to campus in a variety of ways. The College of Science and Mathematics held a Virtual Family Partnership Conference for about 800 incoming freshmen and their families on Aug. 23 to provide advice and support as they begin this new chapter in their lives. The college also launched a new 360 Virtual Tour site to provide new and continuing students with insights on its departments and research opportunities.
Administration and Finance
Human Resources is providing training for any staff, managers and faculty who are interested in serving as Equal Employment Opportunity Designees (EEODs) on recruitment search committees for staff and management positions. The EEOD serves a vital and important role on search committees, and several training workshops will be held this semester. If you are interested or have any questions, contact Kirsten Corey, Human Resources manager for Compliance and Regulatory Programs at kirstenc@csufresno.edu or 559.278.2032.
Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
We are excited to welcome over 6,150 new incoming undergraduate students (approximately 3,450 freshman and 2,700 transfers) to Fresno State for fall 2021. Similar to the fall 2020 and spring 2021 incoming students, this will be the first time fall 2021 freshman and transfer students have set foot on campus. To assist students in becoming familiar with our beautiful campus, the Admissions and Recruitment Office restarted in-person campus tours on Aug. 9. To date, they have provided tours to over 250 students. For students who will not be on campus, we will continue to offer virtual campus tours.
Technology Services
Creating and distributing accessible information helps to remove barriers for people. The Technology Services’ Office of Digital Accessibility is here to assist everyone for the fall 2021 semester as campus returns to normal operations.
Fresno State continues its commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities, our campus community and the general public, have equal access to information on campus digital resources.
University Advancement
Smittcamp Alumni House reopens in spring 2022, becoming available for campus-hosted events Jan. 18.
Recruiting efforts also are underway for the Smittcamp Alumni House coordinator, the facility’s main contact. Look for a future announcement detailing reservations availability.
This fall, Smittcamp Alumni House will accommodate select events hosted by the Office of the President and Fresno State Alumni Association. Ongoing, the number of external events held there not associated with the campus will be limited.
Campus News is the official faculty and staff email newsletter at Fresno State.
