This fall the Henry Madden Library is hosting the university’s first open access symposium, open to any faculty, students or researchers in the community who are interested in publishing their research or simply learning more about the process. The symposium will feature a variety of guest speakers, sessions and a chance to win one of four scholarships to cover faculty publishing fees.
The symposium will take place at the Library on Friday, September 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room.
What is open access, and why does it matter? Open access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. Open access ensures that anyone can access and use these results to turn ideas into industries and breakthroughs into better lives. Open access provides an easy and cost-effective way for researchers to publish their work to the world.
The symposium will include keynote speaker Charlotte Roh from the University of San Francisco. Four $1,500 mini-grants will be available to faculty who attend.
