When a staff or faculty member is a parent, after-hours meetings can be difficult to attend. Having a child-friendly work environment can make all the difference to a parent.
Being able to leave at 3 p.m. to pick up your child, or working from home when your child is sick – these are the things that can make a good work environment become a great work environment.
Laura Alamillo, interim dean for the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, believes a child-friendly space at work is crucial.
"The community looks to us as setting the path in how children are nurtured and valued," she said. "Children are at the center of what we do in the Kremen School, and my goal is to promote activities that affirm children and families."
Because of the steps Kremen has taken to accommodate faculty and staff who are parents, First 5 Fresno County has awarded the Kremen School of Education and Human Development the 2018 Child-Friendly Business Award.
Every year, First 5 Fresno County presents this award to five local businesses that go above and beyond in helping their parent employees achieve a healthy work-home balance.
