The Cross Cultural and Gender Center is excited to introduce Félix Vargas (they/he) as the coordinator of LGBTQ+ Programs and Services. Vargas holds a master’s in Gender and Women’s Studies. With experience in delivering direct services, student programming and project management across both the nonprofit sector and educational settings, they bring expertise in organizational development, strategic communications, empowering community and collective facilitation. Trans, queer, Latine and neurodivergent, his work is squarely centered in the diverse ways in which collective liberation depends on empowering all youth, women, LGBTQ+, (im)migrants, people with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities.
As a trans organizer with outreach and pedagogical expertise, Vargas is motivated to hold supportive spaces where LGBTQ+ people can learn, grow, belong and thrive. They are passionate about creating authentic and transformative learning experiences for all, prioritizing equitable representation of under-resourced communities. Vargas has taught LGBTQ+ studies, as well as writing and composition, at institutions across the United States. As a community member and engagement professional, they strive to make academia inclusive for all. Vargas’ journey navigating diverse identities and lived experiences aligns with the core value championed by the Cross Cultural and Gender Center to inspire, empower and educate the Fresno State community through inclusive excellence and leadership.
Please join the Cross Cultural and Gender Center in welcoming Félix to Fresno State!
