Across campus, 46 faculty completed the summer HyFlex training and are teaching 72 HyFlex courses during the fall semester.
Fresno State continues to demonstrate its commitment to the needs of students and employees through its investment in HyFlex teaching and learning opportunities. In total, 56 HyFlex classrooms have been converted by the Classroom Video Services team, in consultation with faculty and instructional designers. Over 2,200 students are participating in a HyFlex course this semester, and an additional 35 faculty are currently receiving HyFlex training to teach in this modality the following semester.
“Teaching HyFlex requires flexibility,” said Dr. Reuben Addo, assistant professor in the Department of Social Work Education. “It requires shedding some of the traditional top-down paternalistic approaches that we have been accustomed to. By teaching this course, I can develop my ability to engage students through non-traditional means of course delivery and expand my pedagogical grounding to design student-centric courses that empower students to be accountable for their education and decide what is best for them.”
Visit the College of Health and Human Services blog to hear more from Addo and three other faculty within the College of Health and Human Services as they reflect on their HyFlex teaching experience.
The creation of a HyFlex learning environment is a collaborative effort among many departments on campus, including Technology Services, University Scheduling Office, DISCOVERe, the Center for Faculty Excellence, and is possible through the ongoing commitment from President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Provost Xuanning Fu, Vice President Debbie Astone and the President's Cabinet.
