Effective Oct. 4, California will prohibit state-funded and state-sponsored travel to Iowa because of a new provision in Iowa law, House File Bill No. 766, enacted on May 3 and deemed as discriminatory, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced.
As a reminder, funds appropriated by the legislature (i.e. tuition, fees, all campus funds) may not be used to pay for travel to the current list of banned states. However, campuses may choose to support travel based on their review of individual circumstances (i.e. sport team travel, faculty who hold leadership positions in national organizations, etc.) with non-state funding from campus auxiliary organizations or private funds.
