Beginning later this month, Facilities Management will begin a project that will improve our natural gas underground distribution system. This project will result in a safer, more energy-efficient gas system. Scope of work includes: new earthquake gas shut-off valves, regulators and added isolation valves. All work will take place outside of our campus buildings. The project is scheduled for completion in February 2018.
Temporary gas shutdowns will be necessary. To minimize the impact to our campus operations and instructional activities, these shutdowns will be pre-scheduled.
Facilities Management will work closely with the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness Committee as well as the Department Safety Coordinators to ensure that safe access to and from campus facilities is maintained at all times, and that any concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Please be advised that while this work is underway, the odor of natural gas may be detectible; however, the contractor will have state-of-the-art gas detection monitoring equipment on-site at all times while performing the work. Updates will be provided throughout the duration of the project.
