The Normal School literary magazine presents an evening with author Lacy M. Johnson, hosted by the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Conley Art Auditorium, Room 101.
Based in Houston, Texas, Johnson is a professor, curator and activist. She is the author of “The Reckonings,” which was named a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist in criticism and one of the best books of 2018 by the Boston Globe, Electric Literature, Autostraddle and more.
She is also the author of “The Other Side” in 2014 and “Trespasses: A Memoir” in 2012. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in creative writing from the University of Houston, and her work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and several literary magazines. She teaches creative nonfiction at Rice University and is the founding director of the Houston Flood Museum.
