The screenings, coordinated by the Senior Awareness and Fall Education (S.A.F.E.) Central Valley Coalition Central Valley Coalition, will assess the strength, balance and risk of falling for pre-registered individuals.
Every 15 seconds in the U.S., an older adult is treated for a fall in the emergency room. Injuries sustained from falls can lead to hip fractures and other life-altering risks. The S.A.F.E. Coalition was developed to help older adults, and their caretakers, reduce these risks. In addition to the screenings, educational materials, as well as a six-month post-assessment checkup, will be provided for clients.
Fresno State students from nursing, physical therapy and kinesiology will collaborate with pharmacy students from California Health Sciences University to complete the hour-long screenings, under the supervision of licensed nurse practitioners and physical therapists. An appointment and physician clearance from a doctor is required. To learn more, contact the Department of Physical Therapy at 559.278.7539.
