New softball head coach, Linda Garza, a Fresno native, enters her first season at the helm of the Fresno State softball program. She has more than 14 years of collegiate coaching experience, including the last four seasons at the helm of the UC Riverside program in which the team won 39 and 32 games in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
New head wrestling coach, Troy Steiner, who spent the past 10 years at Oregon State, will restore the wrestling program at Fresno State. His career achievements include coaching for 22 All-Americans, 10 Big Ten Champions, seven Pac-12 Championship teams and six NCAA Division I Champions, along with a Junior FILA World Freestyle Champion. He was inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa in 2013.
Natalie Benson is the University’s first women’s water polo head coach. Involved in the sport for two decades, Benson transformed herself from a player who reached the pinnacle of the sport in college at UCLA and then for Team USA, where she competed in two Olympics, to becoming one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the U.S. She was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2015.
