Richter Center student leaders ready to serve
In August, thirty-four Fresno State students completed training to serve as Richter Center Student Leaders [RCSL] . RCSL is comprised of four distinct teams, the Richter Center Ambassadors, Reflection Facilitators, SERVE Committee, and the new Service-Learning Coaches. RCSL members will volunteer through a variety of projects and programs ranging from planning one-day service events, like the forthcoming Make a Difference Day in October, to conducting workshops and presentations. The newest team to join RCSL, the Service-Learning Coaches, launches this fall and will feature peer facilitated reflection workshops for students enrolled in service-learning courses. Reading and Beyond at Fresno State kicks-off 4th year of service
Reading and Beyond at Fresno State, a partnership between local community benefit organization Reading and Beyond and Fresno State’s Jan & Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning, is getting ready to share its love for reading with Central Valley K-6 grade children again this school year. The program will place 60 Federal Work-Study student tutors with struggling readers at school and community-based sites throughout Fresno. Last year, Reading and Beyond at Fresno State student tutors provided almost 17,000 hours of service to children and their families through literacy tutoring, outreach, and community events. The student tutors also played a big role in providing tutoring to children in Reading and Beyond’s Family Success Zone.
