The Fresno State Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Thomas Loewenheim, presented its opening concert of the season this past Saturday, October 6. The concert, titled Timeless Beauty, focused on three beautiful works in the symphonic literature.
The concert opened with Beethoven’s dramatic Coriolan Overture, based on the famous story of Coriolanus, the Roman general who abandons his country to fight for the enemy Volscians and ends up dying instead of betraying his people.
This piece was followed by Schumann’s heavily revised and romantic Symphony No. 4, which he dedicated to his beloved wife Clara.
The concert ended with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8, a free flowing and innovative symphony with strong influences of Bohemian folk music and Czech-flavored ingredients.
Don't miss this season! Tickets are General: $15; Employees & Seniors: $10; Students: $5. For more information and ticket sales please check the Department of Music webpage at http://www.fresnostate.edu/music.
