Dr. Felton Burns, a former professor in the Department of Social Work Education, passed away Sept. 27, 2018, at the age of 82, in Fresno.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at Family Community Church (2434 E. Nees). Viewing and visitation hours are from 3 - 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Jesse E. Cooley Funeral Home (1830 S. Fruit).
“Dr. Burns was a very cultured, polite and humble person,” said Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, professor emeritus in the Department of Social Work Education and former colleague of Burns. “He was a very pleasant colleague and I always enjoyed his company.”
Dr. Burns worked closely with Dr. Kapoor to create the Richard D. Ford Peace Plaza in the Peace Garden on campus, which was dedicated to the former dean of the then-School of Health and Social Work (now College of Health and Human Services), who was both a dear colleague and friend of Burns. Together, they worked on a training program for foster parents, which continues to this day.
