Jumpstart Fresno partnered with the Betty Rodriguez Regional Library to celebrate Read for the Record 2017 on Oct. 19.
Jumpstart members are Fresno State students working in teams to serve local preschool classrooms and participate in family engagement activities in the community.
During this annual campaign Jumpstart highlights the importance of building early literacy and language skills for every child. Nicole McNeil, Jumpstart and Fresno State alum, read Quackers by Liz Wong and current students sang and did crafts with the children.
The goal of storytime in the library is to provide local families with strategies on reading and speaking to their children. Children that start behind tend to stay behind and are more likely to drop out of high school. Jumpstart members are committed to enhance children’s vocabulary and comprehension of stories to prepare them for school and overall success.
This was the second year celebrating Read for the Record at the Betty Rodriguez Regional Library and Jumpstart Fresno is planning to continue with a monthly storytime. The next event is Wednesday, November 15 from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Jumpstart firmly believes that “Together we can help all children build the key language and literacy skills they need to take on the world.”
