Be a mentor to former foster care or homeless students
Renaissance Scholars Mentoring Program is looking for mentors for fall 2017. The new mentoring program began this year to assist students who experienced foster care or homelessness. Renaissance Scholars is dedicated to improving the educational outcomes of Fresno State students who have experienced foster care, unaccompanied homelessness youth or independent youth by providing a network of academic, personal and financial support.
Mentors are faculty, staff or community members who meet monthly with their protégé. The mentors offer personal and/or professional guidance, support and encouragement. In addition, each month a luncheon is provided to bring together the community of mentors and protégés to share experiences and resources and build community.
Being a mentor is a minimum one-year commitment and training is provided to mentors prior to being matched with a student protégé. To learn more or sign up to be mentor, contact John Hunt at john0127@mail.fresnostate.edu.
