This time last year, 366 generous faculty and staff joined hundreds of alumni and community members to raise $424,755 during Fresno State’s inaugural Day of Giving (D.O.G.) campaign.
This year, Day of Giving is on Thursday, Nov. 1. As the 24-hour online fundraiser draws near, students reflect on last year’s Day of Giving.
“It’s really cool to see the community — the campus community specifically — come together and rally around this idea,” said Hunter Sansom, a communication student and ASI senator for the College of Arts and Humanities. “That friendly level of competition between programs and colleges fosters an amicable environment, one that is also oriented towards continuing Fresno State’s bold path.”
Sansom said her favorite thing about Fresno State is the connections she’s made with different people. Her professors have been an inspiration for her. As such, her goal after earning her bachelor’s degree is to pursue graduate school and return to Fresno State as a professor.
“Fresno State has given me so many opportunities and so many amazing memories and connections with different people,” she said. “And that’s been with the assistance and guidance of people on campus — colleagues and students and professors, staff and faculty.”
Matthew Jaime, a dietetics student, will soon benefit from last year’s D.O.G. donations. This winter, he and his fellow dietetics, nursing and public health students will go on a service-learning trip to Fiji to work in global healthcare.
The trip is partially funded by D.O.G. donations to the President’s Circle for Excellence.
“I’m really excited to see healthcare outside of the United States,” he said. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity.”
Jaime was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 16 years old. His goal is to show by example that people with diabetes can live a healthy, active lifestyle. He would like to open up his own diabetes care center.
“I’m so grateful that Fresno State is giving me the platform to make change,” Jaime said.
Day of Giving is only 24 hours, from midnight through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Faculty and staff can participate in the campaign in the following ways:
-
Show your Fresno State pride by wearing Bulldog Red!
-
Share the D.O.G website on your social media channels. Use the hashtags #FresnoStateDOG and #FeedTheDOG.
-
Take part in the hourly challenges! For some challenges, just posting the right selfie can lead you to win money for your favorite program.
- Go to Fleming’s, at Fashion Fair Mall, between 5 and 7 p.m. for a no-host happy hour D.O.G. celebration. Fleming’s is sponsoring the event and is offering special D.O.G. prices.
All D.O.G. donations help students like Sansom and Jaime and ensure Fresno State continues to fulfill its mission to boldly empower students for success. To donate to your favorite school, college or program, visit the website on Nov. 1.
