Fresno State will host the 2018 Cello Fresno festival Nov. 1 - 3, with a grand finale Gala Concert at the Department of Music Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.
Cellists from the Central Valley, as well as from around California, Nevada, and Indiana, will gather in Fresno for an intense, three-day cello festival.
The festival includes master classes, lessons, and large cello ensembles conducted by the festival's guest artists, Emilio Colón and Cara Colón, who will lead the ensembles and work with the students throughout the festival.
The festival will culminate with a grand Gala Concert on Saturday night, which will include a performance of Popper's virtuosic Suite for Two Cellos performed by Dr. Thomas Loewenheim and Prof. Emilio Colón.
A variety of cello ensembles will perform throughout the evening, including works by Kreisler, Rossini, Tansman, Villa-Lobos, and Tchaikovsky's powerful Pezzo Capriccioso featuring Loewenheim as soloist.
