In the 50 years since the ordination of Rabbi Sally Priesand in 1972, women rabbis and cantors have rewritten many of the scripts that defined Jewish clerical leadership in the United States. Dr. Karla Goldman (Sol Drachler Professor of Social Work and Professor of Judaic Studies, University of Michigan) will discuss the nature and impact of these changes, while also exploring the challenges facing women leaders within a tradition that from ancient times until 50 years was defined almost exclusively by male leadership. Goldman is the author of "Beyond the Synagogue Gallery: Finding a Place for Women in American Judaism."
