Dr. Luis J. Gordo Peláez joins the Department of Art and Design as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the University of Texas at Austin. The history of cultural production and built environment of the early modern transatlantic Hispanic world are his primary research interests. A native of Spain, he is thrilled to join the community at Fresno State and excited to be back in the state of California, where he first lived 10 years ago while he studied abroad at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Ahran Koo joins the Department of Art and Design as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. As an artist, art educator and art advocate, Ahran promotes the efficacy of art to address cultural and social awareness. Her research and teaching expertise include community art, visual storying, visual culture, art-based research, digital narrative, critical multiculturalism and participatory action research.

Dr. Robert B. Lull joins the Department of Communication as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the University of Pennsylvania where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Robert has three primary teaching areas: science and risk communication, strategic communication and communication technology.

Dr. Brian Cozen joins the Department of Communication as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research examines how communication mediates human-environment relationships, particularly in relation to energy practice. He teaches courses in environmental communication and rhetoric.

Dr. Jaydene Elvin joins the Department of Linguistics as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development at Western Sydney University in Sydney, Australia. Jaydene has two primary teaching areas: teaching English as a second language (TESL) and general linguistics.

Dr. Nancy Van Leuven joins the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from the University of Washington. Nancy is an award-winning instructor. As a Native American scholar, her most recent research explores issues in global communication and the environment, with a focus on women and indigenous populations within social justice and international development frameworks.

Dr. Wes Wise joins the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism as an assistant professor, coming to Fresno State from Kansas State University. At Kansas State, Wes taught advertising and research methods classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and ended his time there as the head of the advertising sequence. His research interests include the effects of unattended information on the processing of persuasive messages, and how various emotional states influence people’s memory and judgments of mediated messages.

Kristine Doiel joins the Department of Theatre Arts both as a lecturer and costume designer. Kristine has designed and constructed costumes for more than 50 theatre and dance productions in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Santa Clarita, Milwaukee and Central California. Local designs have been seen at Sierra Repertory Theatre, Playhouse Merced and CSU Stanislaus. Doiel has also worked for Los Angeles Opera as assistant costume director and for Long Beach Opera as costume director.

René Nielson joins the Department of Theatre Arts as the new scenic charge and props master. A California-born scenic charge artist, René has over 10 years of experience in the her field. Some of the highlights of her career include A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Regina Harris joins the Department of Theatre Arts as a lighting and sound technician. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Regina has been designing in the local theatre community for several years. She is a proud alumna of the Fresno State theatre department. She is delighted to return to her alma mater and work in the department where her passion for theatre truly blossomed.

Miguel Gastelum joins the Department of Theatre Arts as a box office and communications coordinator. Originally from Tulare, Miguel is a graduate of the theatre arts program at Fresno State. He has worked in the local theatre scene for several years. He also worked for a local marketing company, Marketing Plus, as the traffic and account coordinator. He is excited to join the Fresno State family and can’t wait to give back to his alma mater.
