As we continue to evolve in an ever-changing technological landscape, I am excited to share a significant step forward: the formal establishment of an AI Initiative, co-led by Dr. Bao Johri and Dr. Alam Hasson.
This initiative builds on the work of the dedicated faculty and staff who participated in last year’s AI Task Force and conference, laying the groundwork for what’s to come.
My vision is to position our students, faculty, and staff at the forefront of technological innovation by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across all aspects of our university equitably, ethically, and securely. By formally establishing an AI Initiative, I aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance research capabilities, and equip students and employees with cutting-edge tools and skills. This initiative will drive academic excellence, innovation, support industry partnerships, and promote ethical AI practices with a commitment to equity for our diverse community. The initiative will furthermore embed AI into our curriculum and research, prepare graduates to become leaders in the digital economy, and ensure our university remains a beacon of exploration, excellence, and inclusion.
Our immediate focus includes providing training and resources to faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the initiative will collaborate with Technology Services to offer AI tools to our community in the coming months. These steps will help ensure that our university grows together as we enter this new age of AI-digital ecosystem. With a commitment to equity, we aim to support our diverse community and promote ethical AI practices at every stage.
Together, we are taking important steps toward a future where Fresno State remains a beacon of exploration, excellence, and inclusion.
